Finca Serrato

During the “Finca Serrato” package, you will walk through different areas of the Montés de Malage and Axarquia.

Traditional farming continues to be carried out in the mountainous Axarquia region. In the mountains you will mainly encounter almond and olive groves, in the valleys that is grain.

It is certainly no exception that you cross a shepherd in this region with his herd of sheep or goats. Which can sometimes make for a nice meeting.

Throughout your walk you will discover various “pueblo blanco”. These small towns or hamlets are characterized by their traditional Andalusian white houses and narrow alleys.

In the Montés de Malaga Natural Park, nature lovers can once again perfectly experience their passion. Walking through this mountainous area full of wild fauna and flora is an unforgettable experience.

The program.

Our packages are mapped out for you and therefore follow a fixed program. Small adjustments on site are of course always possible.

The options for getting from the airport to the finca can be found here.

Day 1.

You will be warmly welcomed at Finca Serrato with a free snack and drink. Here you will get a tour of the accommodation and a brief explanation of how the finca works. This is necessary as we are self-sufficient in terms of water and electricity.

After the journey you have just completed, we will keep the program very calm on the first day. Whoever wants can simply relax and enjoy the surroundings. If you already have jitters, you can choose between 3 walks that start and end in the bed and breakfast. The duration of these walks varies from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours.

Day 2.

In order to be strong and in good shape, you can first enjoy a tasty and healthy breakfast.

The hike planned for this day starts at the finca. The first part leads you to the rio seco (dry river) El Rute. From there you go up on another side to reach the ruins of Lagar El Rute, an old press shop.

The route then goes to the Montés de Malaga Natural Park, after which you arrive at Venta De la Nada. You will find it a little more typical than this place. You think you are certainly 70 years back in time, an experience that you do not want to miss. If desired, you can have lunch here.

After lunch you walk back to Finca Serrato via a completely different route.

This walk takes six to seven hours (without lunch).

Day 3.

After a delicious breakfast to get you off to a good start, one of us will take you to the nearby village of Colmenar.

There you can first soak up the atmosphere on a very typical Spanish terrace. You then walk the first kilometers through the village of Colmenar.

These first kilometers offer you the chance to visit a few sights that Colmenar offers. So you have the bee museum, the Ermita (the local church) and the cemetery that are definitely worth a visit.

Once you leave the village, the walk continues through the campo (countryside). Enjoying the many vistas of the valley you can relax here.

This walk will take between 4 and 5 hours without any stops to visit.

Day 4.

Of course a decent breakfast should not be missing on holiday, so take your time to have breakfast.

Once satisfied, one of us will take you to a starting point in the Montés de Malaga Natural Park. 10 different walking routes have been plotted from that point. It is great that these routes can be combined with each other. This way you decide for yourself how long you walk or how hard you walk.

All routes contain a few places where you can look so far that you imagine yourself alone in the world. Enthusiasts of photography can fully carry out their passion here.

After the walk you will be picked up again at an agreed point and time. Don’t panic, we are always available if unexpected changes occur.

You decide the duration of this walk yourself.

Day 5.

As usual, this day also starts with an extensive breakfast at Finca Serrato.

The walk that is planned for day five is the only one under supervision. You set out with a (Spanish) guide to view the typical rock formations, the pancake rocks. You will have the opportunity to visit some caves if desired.

This walk is accompanied by a guide because paths are used that are normally not accessible to the public.

Chances are that during this walk you will find mountain goats or vultures of which you can take the most incredible photos.

The duration of this walk will be between 4 and 5 hours.

Day 6.

In the meantime you already know that we always start the day with a delicious, fresh breakfast on the finca.

For the walk that is planned here, one of us will take you to the high-lying Moorish settlement of Comares. Because of its high location you have the most impressive views over the coast and Axarquia that can be found there. Don’t forget to take photos when you are here.

Comares is one of the pueblo blanco’s that Andalucia is very proud of. The authenticity has been fully preserved here. Here you will get to know the typical life in a mountain village.

When you have visited the village, the walk continues straight through the mountains back to Finca Serrato.

Count on six to seven hours for this walk to complete them.

Day 7.

The last day of your stay is a so-called “day off”.

You are completely free to complete this day according to your own needs or wishes. For example, you can go for another walk in the Montés de Malaga Natural Park or simply enjoy a day of complete rest.

For good advice, questions or insider tips you can always contact us! We are always ready for you.
