Hiking
First of all, around Serrato you will find plenty of opportunities to take a walk for a few hours through olive and almond orchards or wild nature. Furthermore, between the mountains there is an extensive network of small unmetalled roads connecting the different hamlets. The area consists of olive and almond trees, vineyards, as well as open woods, bushes and spices. The tracks are easy to walk on and the tours vary in duration from one to eight hours.
Just three miles away you reach the large Montes de Malaga, a nature reserve with mainly pine forests. Routes with different levels of difficulty are clearly defined. From North to South the park stretches 15 miles. In the South you will find beautiful views over the Mediterranean and Malaga and, if there is good visibility and with a bit of luck, you will even be able to see Morocco.
At a further distance are Las Alpujarras, the Sierra Nevada, Sierra de Tejeda, Sierra de Loja en El Torcal de Antequera. Each of these places has its own typical appearance and character. From untamed mountains to impressive rock formations or beautiful forests and lakes, a large variety of nature. During winter time we can recommend walking-tours through the snow in Las Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada.

Biking
Around Serrato the network of minor roads, pathways, mule tracks and dirt roads as connections between the small villages is an ideal place for the mountain biker seeking the medium rated tours. The area is covered with greenery like olive and almond trees, spices, bushes and natural forests. The tracks are alternately sloping and steep, the routes varying from one to eight hours.
Also, just three miles away in the forests of Montes de Malaga a network of many different bike path, varying in difficulty, is set out. Distance of the park from North to South is approximately 15 miles. Tours in the Southern part will surprise you with exciting views over the Mediterranean and Malaga and during clear weather you might even make out the contours of Morocco.
The road system in the area mainly consists of secondary and forest roads, generally in good condition. The highest peak of the Montes de Malaga is 3000 feet so for the trained biker easy to do. It is not for nothing that sportsmen even from the Madrid region regularly use this region to practise their skills!
Further away the bikers will find their challenges on the tracks of the Las Alpujarras, the Sierra Nevada, Sierra de Tejeda, Sierra de Loja en El Torcal de Antequera. Each of these places offering its own typical appearance and character to enjoy during the different cycling tours; rough mountains, beautiful rock formations or calm forests and peaceful lakes.

Beach and Sea
The beaches east of Malaga are approximately 12 miles from Serrato. Little coastal villages offer you a large variety of fish restaurants in a pleasant atmosphere. No high-rise flats and foreign tourists, just the Spanish themselves in their own environment. The dynamic international places can be found in the direction of Torremolines (45 minutes) and Marbella (90 minutes), on the longest and most beautiful beaches of Spain.
